Five Things Friday: What I’ve Been Up To Edition
by lauralynne
And liking it! I’ve been “training” with a group of co-workers for a 15K (!–not running the whole thing by ANY means) and for whatever reason, running is really sticking with me this time around. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve tried to develop and enjoy a running habit and it just hasn’t happened. It definitely helps that I’ve got a good group of people to meet up with once a week–I run in between so that I can kind of keep up and those are the runs that I am really starting to enjoy. I always enjoy meeting up with friends, so it’s a no-brainer that I’ll enjoy our weekend group runs.
Tai Chi
We have a free class at the library once a week. The instructor is from Tennessee and has a very pronounced Southern red neck accent. It’s kind of a quirky mix of cultures. :) I’m not always sure about all the energy speak, but I can definitely feel the chi during a good session.
Decluttering my mental landscape
Trying to focus only on what’s important. Making decisions about our future and my career and figuring out how to sustain friendships over long distances (major weak area of mine).
Getting lost on Spotify
I LOVE Spotify! So great for listening to tracks that end up on my running playlists, not to mention the rabbit warren of music exploration that you can really fall into by clicking on related artists and jumping around from playlist to playlist.
Trying to be Plant Strong
Not succeeding 100%. Not too worried about succeeding 100%. My goal is primarily to reset my diet, taste buds, etc. after the great meat out that was 2011. I don’t really have plans to be 100% vegan. And probably not going to be 100% oil-free, either! But cutting a lot OUT of my diet is making me think about what I want to be IN my diet and what I eat just because I can.

But cutting a lot OUT of my diet is making me think about what I want to be IN my diet and what I eat just because I can.
You know, I find I’ve been thinking about this in the opposite way lately. Been trying to identify the things I want more of (thinking nutritionally, and for my particular health concerns) and make sure I focus my meals on those things, and other stuff gets crowded out. It just occurred to me at some point that working from the positive perspective is more effective right now. But I definitely hear you on, “what I eat just because I can.” Best of luck.
Hi Mella! For me the vegan diet is actually part of identifying what are the most nutritionally valuable foods (vegetables, complex carbs) but my rather weak self needs to think backwards in order to go forwards sometimes. :)
Impressive five! (and I like Mella’s idea about working from the positive perspective. I must work at that.)
I’ve just tagged you in a Q&A — participate or ignore as works for you. http://serenityathome.blogspot.com/2012/02/plan-b-q-type-meme.html
Thanks SCB! I really enjoyed your questions and my answers will be up soon!
