Around Here…

At the beginning of the month I finally got the ratty old garden turned around into something that I’m rather proud of. I had a lot of help from my husband and parents, who built the second raised bed while I was at work and helped dig up sod to expand the total area that the garden comprises. We just got back from a productive trip to Alabama (I feel like we may never see the end of cleaning up estates, but we did get something done!) and I was super happy to see that the garden fared very well in our absence. The marigolds are lush and blooming and everything has probably increased in size by about 30% or more. The beans are really tall and both the okra and squash have sprouted. I need to tie up some of the smaller tomato plants (I had already taken care of the larger plants) and get a trellis for the squash before that gets out of hand. Also, the sago palm that I transplanted has not died and is in fact sending out new shoots. And I think that the hydrangea that I planted shortly after moving in two years ago is going to bloom for the first time ever!! It’s possible that I am finally, kind-of, sort-of, getting my shit together (at least as far as the back yard is concerned). We’ll talk later about the abysmal state of the grass…
