Blooming Star quilt back

I finally sat down and just made the back for my Blooming Stars baby quilt. The top has been finished for years and I think even made it on some FAL lists but obviously I never went anywhere with it. Today I brought it out to show a friend — because I gave it as an example of a quilt I got frustrated with and just put away — and since all the backing fabric had already been selected and was hung with the top I decided to just get it done! It helps that the friend I showed it to is one I am helping to make her first quilt and my own excuses sound pretty weak in front of an audience! ;) Here is a photo of the quilt top resting on the back:

I was frustrated that some of the points were off and that the center of the star is a bit bumpy, but as I had just told her…it’s a baby quilt and its intended recipient isn’t going to stop loving it just because a few intersections aren’t perfect. I decided to take my own advice. Anyway, that quilt back is the sum of my stash report in usage today — I’ve been making City Sampler blocks, but I won’t count the yardage for that until the quilt top is complete. And I’m two seams away from finishing up the top to Bri’s quilt, finally! So hopefully that will go on next week’s stash report. Oh, I also bound the oven mitt I’d made ages ago for my sister but stymied me on how to bind it since it was so thick. Which used maybe one 2.5″ strip but took quite a while because I ended up having to hand stitch it!

As I mentioned in my post yesterday, I did end up purchasing fabric this week. Some coral fat quarters to round out my Seeing Stars QAL fabric pull and 6 solids to help add some range in the palette I’m using for the City Sampler/#100days100blocks SAL on Instagram.
